Full steam ahead for the Flog It team – and the Roundhouse!

When the Barrow Hill Roundhouse was threatened with demolition in 1991, a  group of dedicated volunteers were determined it wouldn’t be the end of the  line for this unique 19th Century Grade II Listed Building. Leonie Martin learns  about this remarkable site and what happened when the BBC Flog It team recently steamed in to film there.

BARROW Hill Roundhouse Railway Centre, near Chesterfield, recently hosted the popular BBC One antiques programme Flog It. Members of the public from Derbyshire and beyond brought a fascinating array of treasures for valuation by the show’s panel of experts. And, being the only surviving railway roundhouse in the United Kingdom with an operational turntable, the venue provided a unique backdrop to this successful show, which has recently filmed its 1,000th episode, is now recording its 16th series and regularly achieves an audience of over two million viewers in its weekday afternoon slot…
