Monuments, stones, stoops – and stunning views!

THIS month’s walk, created by Judith Parker Dixon, skirts three of our gritstone edges and offers some of Derbyshire’s finest views. It also visits one of Peakland’s Companion Stones – distinctive pieces of ‘moorland art’ – as well as passing two older monuments.

1. On leaving the car park, turn left to follow the road. Walk about 75 yards, passing the entrance to Robin Hood Farm to take a path (left). Follow the path uphill through a gate signed Eastern Moors Partnership. The route continues up steps to the left, climbing steadily. Ignore paths off to the right, unless you wish to climb higher to Birchen Edge. Keep looking up to the right to see Nelson’s Monument, standing tall on top of Birchen Edge…
