Having won the battle to improve the availability and quality of real ale, it seems that the next stage of this most successful of consumer campaigns will be to try to preserve the choice and location of the very places where we like to drink. Major companies are selling off their pubs as convenience stores or for residential development and there is a real threat to the continuing existence of the traditional British public house. Yet the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and local communities are finding ways to fight back to keep pubs open – and here in Derbyshire there is increasing evidence of this taking place…
