The lifetime of Linacre… a fascinating tale

Fifteen-year-old students Georgina Michalkow (left) and Izzy Bunting (right) joined the Reflections team on work experience last month… and here are their reflections in words and pictures on the history of Linacre and its reservoirs.

JUST NORTH WEST OF CHESTERFIELD, near Cutthorpe, is an oasis of peace and tranquillity. Linacre Nature Reserve  is  a delightful area of water and woodland, criss-crossed with enticing footpaths. Three mirror-like  reservoirs are encircled by stretches of wildflower meadows and verdant woodland, and are alive with wildlife, from great crested grebes to speckled wood butterflies. Dragonflies dart, jewel-like, over the surface of the water; kingfishers flit from tree to tree, flashes of cobalt blue amongst the greenery…
