Splendid stroll from a reborn station

Hassop Station

A splendid three-mile stroll this month taking in the Monsal Trail and over fields towards Bakewell and back.

OUR STARTING POINT is the building  that used to be Hassop Station, which opened  way back in 1862. Its remote location saw it struggle to attract sufficient passengers, though, and  Sunday services were scrapped in 1921 and other trains were slowly withdrawn until there were none remaining by 1942. Hassop continued as a goods yard before closing entirely in 1964…
