Giving Derbyshire’s ‘at risk’ sheep a brighter future…

As lambing time comes around again, Steve Brown finds out how some dedicated local farmers are trying to save an “at risk” Derbyshire breed of sheep.

Our county has two native sheep breeds, the  Whitefaced Woodland and the Derbyshire Gritstone. The latter’s name seems almost synonymous with the High Peak, its craggy escarpments and windswept moors, yet the breed is considered “at risk” as the numbers of flocks of the pure-bred Gritstone has  dwindled…
