There are just seven volunteers in the Matlock branch of the British Heart Foundation – but its fund-raising record is quite remarkable, as publicity officer Chris Thompson explains.
THE BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION is the largest funder of heart research in the UK. The charity receives no government funding and relies on donations and fund-raising events to continue with its life-saving work. As well as funding vital research, much of it at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester, the BHF provides education and information on how to reduce the chances of suffering from heart disease and support for those people who unfortunately do suffer from it. Funds are also used to provide life-saving equipment in the community, in local hospitals and GP surgeries and to pay for numerous specialist heart nurses.
