Chesterfield-born composer Steve Elcock, who has lived in France for decades, makes a very special return to England this month, as Barrie Farnsworth reports.
THERE’S a live BBC Radio 3 concert this month in which the work of a Chesterfield born composer, Steve Elcock, will be premiered. It’s the first time his Fourth Symphony has been performed in public… but that’s not unusual, as Steve had been composing classical music for many, many years in his spare time at his home in France, without really telling anyone he was doing so, before his work was first given airtime by the then BBC Northern Orchestra in 2009. Steve will be travelling from his home near Lyon to hear the BBC Philharmonic perform his work, at MediaCityUK in Salford, on Tuesday, March 17. It’s a rare return to his home country for the language training consultant and translator, who has lived and worked in France for nearly 40 years…
