At the top of a hill in the heart of rural Derbyshire, Stanton in Peak Church of England Primary School has a magnificent outlook. But there’s far more to this small village school than its outstanding location, as Leonie Martin discovers.
BUILT IN 1879, and bequeathed to the village by the Thornhill family, Stanton in Peak C of E Primary School faces open countryside dotted with sheep. While its single-storey, traditional stone façade speaks of a much simpler, if perhaps less comfortable, era, the new and colourful school sign is evidence of the school’s more contemporary achievements: a recent, and rigorous Ofsted inspection has classified it as ‘outstanding in all areas’…
