Leonie Martin talks to Derbyshire textile artist Karen Herrick (above) about her journey of discovery and the community workshops she runs, inspiring and enabling others to be creative and enhance their wellbeing.
TEXTILE ARTIST Karen Herrick loved art from an early age, but it took time to find her niche. At the age of 16 she was accepted onto an Arts Foundation Course two years earlier than her peers, but found it wasn’t right for her. “None of the disciplines resonated with me: I wasn’t a ceramicist; I wasn’t a fine artist, a photographer, or a graphic designer either, and although I loved textiles, back then it was all about fashion design. So I decided to go back to sixth form and took three A-levels in just one year! After that I went into teacher training, with Art as my first subject.”…
