Bannister Publications was founded in 1992 by local journalist Graham Bannister.  For some three decades, the flagship magazine of Reflections has served as the largest circulation lifestyle magazine in Derbyshire.  In 2013 Bannister Publications launched its private book publishing service, which supports writers, authors, photographers, artists and many others in publishing.

Main responsibilities

Working for a leading publishing house, you will be part of a small team and report to the Director.  As a small business, all members of the team have varying roles, responsibilities and duties and are encouraged to take on a wide range of tasks and duties to suit their skill set.

This vacancy has arisen following the retirement of a long-standing member of the team.  Initially, the Duties and Responsibilities would be set out in the Job Description, but the right candidate will find there are numerous opportunities to expand the role as the needs of the business dictate.

The successful candidate will have a good range of administration skills and experience and be able to complete the duties of the role as outlined below:

There are two key elements to this role:

  1. Day-to-day booking keeping.
  2. General day-to-day business administration.

Bookkeeping duties

  • Raising sales invoices and statements and sending them to clients via various methods.
  • Raising purchase invoices.
  • Preparation and input of new client and supplier accounts.
  • Taking payments from clients.
  • Credit control.
  • Managing supplier payments.
  • Dealing with all day-to-day communications, statement requests, remittance advice and transactions with all business clients and suppliers.
  • Assisting with VAT returns and online submission to HMRC.
  • Assisting the external Accountancy Firm with administrative duties on a monthly basis and preparing yearly accounts

Administration duties

  • General day-to-day business administration – including covering reception/phones, and draft correspondence.
  • Customer and supplier service admin – addressing queries, email/phone response to queries.
  • Assisting with the distribution of Reflections magazine.
  • Supporting with subscription renewals and distribution/postage.
  • Assisting with book orders.
  • Support with contract renewals – insurance, utilities etc.
  • Regular contact with clients, suppliers and general public.

General

  • Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to achieve the company’s goals and targets.
  • Comply with the company’s Security & Confidentiality policy and procedures at all times, ensuring the highest levels of information security, data protection and confidentiality.

Person specification

Essential

  • Excellent administration skills and experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Excellent written English.
  • A strong communicator who is comfortable building relationships both internally and externally.
  • Enthusiasm to learn and develop the role.
  • Ability to manage time without supervision.
  • Experience in bookkeeping.

Desirable

  • Prior knowledge of SAGE.

Location

This role will be office-based at the Chesterfield city centre office.
