LIKE MANY SMALL TOWNS, Bakewell seems to have changed more in the last y years than in the previous two centuries combined. Such sentiments are, no doubt, exaggerated. Yet there can be no question that the pace of change a er 1960 increased dramatically, altering Bakewell in ways not seen since the days of the Industrial Revolution.
