Over the last weekend of September the hugely successful Ticket To Ride – Barrow Hill ‘65 took place at Barrow Hill Roundhouse and, bathed in beautiful early autumn sunshine, thousands of railway enthusiasts from all over the country flocked to Staveley for the three-day event. David Birchall was there to witness proceedings.

CELEBRATING THE history of the Midland Railway, the LMS and commemorating the 50th anniversary of the final working steam train leaving Barrow Hill on Friday, October 2, 1965, the Ticket To Ride – Barrow Hill ’65 event further cemented the Roundhouse’s unique place and importance, not just as a railway heritage site, but also as a new site of industrial, commercial, and social importance with an eye to the future.
