Wide-reaching views and wonderful bluebells!

Steve Brown knows where there is a ‘simply wonderful display’ of bluebells – so it has to be part of our walk for May!

OUR May walk visits the Derbyshire Wildlife Trust’s nature reserve at Hillbridge Wood, near Whaley Bridge, where there is a simply wonderful display of bluebells this month. Starting at Taxal, the route climbs to Taxal Edge and Windgather Rocks for wide-reaching views before descending into the scenic Goyt Valley via Foxlow Edge. The return to Taxal leads past both Errwood and Fernilee reservoirs to conclude through Hillbridge Wood back to Taxal. Derbyshire Wildlife Trust maintain Hillbridge Wood, which is an important remnant of upland oak woodland and a significant habitat for birds, mosses and lichens as well as the bluebells.
