When RBSL embarked on the ambitious transformation of the former Royal Bank of Scotland building in Matlock, they turned to the creative flair and expertise of interior designer Zoe Woodward – a collaboration that is resulting in something truly exceptional.

Zoe was commissioned to create the interior vision and set the tone for the first phase of this landmark development. Her role has been pivotal in shaping the interior identity of what is now being thoughtfully and sensitively converted into a collection of 16 stylish apartments, blending heritage with contemporary living.
A Building Steeped in History
The Old Bank is a striking Grade II listed Georgian building, dating back to the late 1700s. Over the years,
it has served many purposes – from a boarding school for young ladies in the 1820s, to a private residence, and later a bank following its purchase by the Sheffield and Rotherham Bank in the 19th century.
Set in the historic spa town of Matlock, the building has long been part of the town’s architectural and social fabric. Today, thanks to the vision of RBSL, it is being sensitively reimagined for modern living while respecting its rich past.
Design Vision – Heritage Meets Contemporary Living
The shared aim of RBSL and Zoe Woodward has been clear: to retain the architectural integrity of this iconic building while creating interiors that feel fresh, elegant, and relevant for today’s buyer.
Zoe’s design approach reflects this perfectly. Original features such as mouldings and proportions have been respected and enhanced, while a carefully considered palette of heritage-inspired pastel tones introduces warmth and softness. These are balanced against crisp white detailing and contemporary finishes, ensuring the interiors feel refined rather than traditional.
The result is a seamless blend of old and new – interiors that honour the building’s Georgian heritage while offering a sophisticated, modern living environment.

A Landmark Development
The development will deliver 16 prestigious apartments in a prime central Matlock location, featuring high ceilings, generous layouts, contemporary kitchens and bathrooms, landscaped communal gardens, and excellent transport links.
With features including underfloor heating, EV charging points, solar panels, and secure parking, this is a development that combines character with cutting-edge convenience.
