Christopher Townsend tells how a drive home from the seaside  – and a few scarecrows – inspired the first Brampton Potteries Festival nearly a decade ago.

ONE EVENING ABOUT TEN YEARS AGO, my wife and I left  Scarborough, cloaked under a cold blanket of sea fret, and drove into bright evening sunshine near the village of Wetwang.  Yes that’s right – Wetwang – the place in East Yorkshire where Paul Hudson, the BBC weatherman of ‘Look North’ fame, is Honorary Mayor.  The attraction on that  glorious summer’s evening was an entertaining Scarecrow Festival…
