SIXTY years ago, Derbyshire witnessed one of the most touching examples of the devotion and dedication of man’s best friend, as Steve Brown reports.

IT WAS IN  March 1954 that a shepherd who had been reported lost on the moors in a blizzard the previous  December was discovered dead  – but his loyal sheepdog was found alive by his side having survived the harshest of winters. And sixty years on,  the High Peak is still seeing dogs displaying their regard for man by assisting in the search and rescue of those lost or injured on the moors. This is their story…
