YES, there was a time when the Newbold Hundred was more important than neighbouring Chesterfield!  Even today, the extensive suburb of Newbold stretches right from the soulless ‘Do-nut’  to Four Lane Ends; and boasts three churches of note: the Parish Church of St John’s, Littlemoor, built in 1857; St Hugh’s Roman Catholic Church, just off Duke’s Drive – the Duke of Devonshire’s Drive – built in the mid 1960s;  and St Andrew’s, which was enlarged and re-dedicated in 1955…
