It is the 40th anniversary of ‘enterprising’ Bakewell Choral, as Peter Knowles reports.

IT WAS IN 1978 that Richard Barnes, a music teacher at Lady Manners School, Bakewell had an article in the Derbyshire Times – headlined ‘Like to Sing?’ – which read: Rehearsals of the newly-formed Bakewell Choral Society, conductor Richard Barnes, commence on Monday September 11th. Anyone who is interested in singing is invited to join. There will be no auditions. The Choral Society will meet each Monday evening in Bakewell Methodist Schoolroom, Matlock Street.
